Our story

From the clinic
to the community.

Smile Naija began inside AskTheDentist Clinics, where we kept meeting the same pattern: preventable dental disease, discovered far too late.

The roadmap
1 of 36 states

From one room, to many streets.

So we stepped outside. Smile Naija is that step: a community programme built on the belief that oral health is a basic part of a healthy life.

  1. In the clinic

The clinic could fix teeth, but it could not change the beliefs, habits and access gaps that created the problem.

  2. Classrooms in Ibadan

Oral-health lessons, brushing demonstrations and free screenings, right where children already are.

  3. Community squares

Open-air education and screenings in markets, churches, mosques and neighbourhood squares.

  4. Radio and street corners

Conversations that bring out what people really believe, and the questions they have never had answered.

Oral health is not a luxury. It is a basic part of a healthy life.
Our guiding principle

Four things we won’t compromise on

Every classroom, market square and street interview passes through these four filters.

Access

We go to where people already are (schools, markets, places of worship) instead of waiting for them to come to a clinic.

Respect

We listen first. Street Voices exists so that communities shape the message, not just receive it.

Evidence

Every school visit and outreach is documented. What gets measured can be improved.

Sustainability

We train teachers, community health workers and volunteers so the lessons outlive a single visit.

For individuals

The work is bigger than one clinic.

Whether you have an hour a month or an institution to bring, there is a place for you in this.
